What you are about to read is a true story of God’s mercy and love that
happened on Ometepe Island, Lake Nicaragua back in Nov. 2002.
While I was working on our property on the Island my workers yelled over to
me that a small boy fell running down the path next to us and smashed his elbow.
We called for his mother working in the fields nearby and the three of us rushed off in my truck to a clinic just a mile down the road. After an examination we were sent to another larger island clinic where a temporary cast was put on to immobilize the arm.
This whole time the boy Derwin was crying from the pain and the mother was
weeping wondering how she could afford this being poorer than church mice! I
have to tell you the truth that I was upset about losing a days work at the
land but then I thought about it and asked myself, “ Aren’t I here
to serve and show God’s love?" So I lost a days work but relationships
come first in Latin America, work second, the way it should be.
The Doc told us his elbow was so smashed it would need an operation at the
government. hospital over on the mainland. I was asked to take another patient
to that hospital and I wished you could have been in my truck to hear all the
groans and cries of all aboard.
Well we made the ferry over to the mainland and by taxi got to the hospital.
To make a long story short, Derwin had a 3-hour surgery that night and 2 pins
put into his elbow to hold it together.
I didn’t see him till a month later and what a scar he had. The best part
of this story is yet to come. His parents who were not married and weren’t
attending church cried out to God for healing of their only child’s elbow.
God heard their cries and healed Derwin's elbow as if it had never been broken.
In fact they watched in shock as the 2 pins worked their way out of the elbow,
through the skin and onto the floor. I guess God didn’t need those pins
and had them removed.
I moved Derwin’s elbow all around and he had no pain and no damaging effects
from this accident. What a good job of healing our God can do!!!!!!
The parents were sooooooooo thankful to God for showing mercy to their son
that they dedicated their lives to Him, got baptized, then married and are attending
the local church. I was able to attend both ceremonies and took these photos.
Lives were changed for the glory of God so the next time things look bleak (
I thought that in this case) and you might be wondering “where is God
in all this?” just remember Derwin’s story and the outcome.
Bless you all,........
